Villeneuve-lès-Béziers is a wine village on the Canal du Midi which was constructed during the 17th century and is now classified as a world heritage site by UNESCO. The first Villeneuvois people arrived from Spain in 812 AD. The church dates from the 12th century and the construction of the village with its various entry gates was complete before 1500. The population of the village in winter is around 3,500 people and rises to 5,000 in summer.

From the village, there are several buses each day to Béziers, popular for its Friday flower market, cathedral, boutiques, historic quarter, and museums. In August the Feria or bull-fighting festival, is popular also for its music and dancing.

In the village of Villeneuve-les-Béziers are several markets, two bakeries, a small supermarket, two cafés, two pizzerias, a restaurant a post office, two banks, tennis courts and a Multiplex cinema with 12 screens. On Saturdays and Sundays there is a "flea market" or car boot sale, and one must not forget the promenade on the old tow-path along the Canal du Midi.
